Your life has been given to you free of cost. Now I think its bad on your part not to pay to possess the best things in your life (the same life which was given to you without you spending a single pie in the first place). So the adage "The best things in life come free" is superfluous.
what you are paying with came free too...something like 'energy can't be created/destroyed'...so you are not really paying for the best thing - they come free too! :-)
